Signs That It's Time to Remove a Tree
Trees have so many benefits and add a sense of beauty and comfort to your property. Overtime trees can become a part of your family and it’s lovely to watch them change with the season. What happens when trees start to die and wither? How can you tell? Sometimes, to the untrained eye a tree may look healthy but is a disaster waiting to happen.
Diagnosing the Tree:
This is a two-person task- you and your arborist. A quick little test can be scratching a small piece of bark from a few twigs on the tree. If the bark is brown and dry, your tree could be unhealthy.
Now, you look for other signs of disease by checking for fungus such as mushrooms growing at the bottom of your tree. If you begin to see fast growth of fungus on the trunk, your tree may be on the brink of life.
This depends on the type of tree, but if you see a lot of tree roots that are close to the surface, it may be a problem. You can compare your tree to others in the neighborhood if they are the same to double check. The reason behind these surface roots is that your tree may not be getting the nutrients it needs and being so close to the surface leaves it susceptible to harm from animals, weather, lawn mowers and humans. There is a chance your tree can saved, so call a licensed professional to take care of that for you.
If there are holes or dips in your lawn near your tree, it may be due to rotting roots. This could be dangerous because roots help keep a tree upright and stable. Your tree might be a ticking time bomb and can fall over at any time.
Dying Tree Trunk:
If bark is falling off the trunk, or the trunk itself is cracked or seems hollow on the inside, your tree may be struggling to survive. Much like the roots, the trunk is a key component of structure for the tree. Rotting trunks can lead to a sudden collapse of your tree.
Unhealthy trees tend to have less leaves than their healthier counterparts. The leaves that do grow might have an abnormal colour. When Autumn rolls around and the tree does not shed it’s dead leaves, it may be a sign of disease.
After confirming all the signs of a dying tree, we suggest hiring a professional tree removal service to take care of that for you. Do NOT try removing the tree yourself as it can result is injury and damage to you and your property.
